Camp Otter

Established in 1957, YMCA Day Camp Otter is a scenic, daytime get away for boys and girls ages 6 to 13 and over 40 staff from the Merrimack Valley. Camp Otter is made up of 13 acres and is located on the sandy shores of Captain's Pond in Salem, NH. Camp Otter is a co-ed day camp with daily transportation provided throughout the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire.

Nestled among pine trees and protected wetlands, Camp Otter consists of 10 camper cabins set up in a village manner to promote community. Our health director heads the medical program and a local doctor is always on call. Program areas include a swimming area for both instructional and free swim time, boating, basketball/volleyball courts, baseball/soccer field, archery and air rifle range, arts and crafts, and low and high ropes courses.

Along with the weekly themes, Otter days are filled with all-camp activities and visits from special guests. Although competitive opportunities may occur in some of these special programs, the emphasis is always on fun!!

Each summer, day campers get the chance to see what camp is like after hours with four overnight opportunities and two well-supervised family nights that occur on weeks four and seven.

Campers also get a chance to develop valuable life skills at Camp Otter. Through our Character Development program, campers learn how to be caring, responsible, respectful and honest to fellow campers and to the world around them. Also, each camp day begins and ends with a flag ceremony where an opening and closing thought is given. CLICK HERE to review the Camp Otter Parent handbook.
